Miranda Hobbes
Miranda Hobbes, played by Cynthia Nixon, is a 30-something year old women who went to Harvard Law school and is practising law at a firm in New York City. Early in the series, Miranda becomes partner at the law firm. She is a strong and independent woman who insists on handling everything on her own. In the season 2 episode "Four Women and a Funeral", Miranda buys her own appartent on the Upper West Side and has to go through a few embarassing moments in order to buy the place herself. The real estate agent and appartment building owner couldn't accept the fact that a young single woman was buying the appartment on her own: she must be getting help from a boyfriend or father. But no, not Miranda. She has always been one who could take care of herself.
Miranda's style at the beginning of the series was very masculin and lawyer-looking. Through the seasons, as her dating life opens up her style softens and changes to a prettier and more feminine look. She has three main relationships throughout the seasons: Skipper Johnston is a young, sweet, hopeless romantic that Miranda is introduced to through Carrie in season 1. They have a little bit of an on-again-off-again sexual relationship but Miranda never really falls for him; she finds him young and immature. Steve Brady and Miranda meet in season 2 while Miranda gets stood up by Carrie at the bar that Steve works at. At first, they have what Miranda thought would be a one night stand but they end up persuing a relationship. They too have a bit of an on-again-off-again situation but Steve ends up getting Miranda pregnant in seson 4 and they have a child together: Brady Hobbes. They end up getting married in season 6. Robert Leeds is the third of Miranda's serious relationships. They start dating in season 6. Miranda is instantly attracted to him as he has it all: looks, charming personality, loves Brady, and is a Doctor for the New York Knicks. Unfortunately, it doesn't last very long when Miranda realizes she's still in love with Steve.
Although Miranda comes off as a strong woman that never needs anyone's help, she does have a soft inside and is in fact quite sensitive. Throughout the seasons, there are episodes that reveal Miranda's insecurities about how she's cute, but not sexy. She struggles with finding the woman inside her at times and comes off harsh but she really does have a warm and caring heart. She is definitely opinionated and makes this clear in season 6 when Carrie wants to move to Paris with Aleksandr Petrovsky, but this somewhat harsh and abrupt side only comes out because she cares. She is known as being a little judgemental, especially when it comes to Carrie's relationship with Mr. Big but she cares for her friends so much and hates to see them get hurt.
