Samantha Jones
Samantha Jones, played by actress Kim Cattrall, is a very vibrant, strong, and powerful woman. She is very bold and isn't shy to voice her opinions or to express herself in any manner; especially sexually. Although she does have two main relationships throughout the seasons, she's not a big believer in monogamy or committed relationships.
She also has a very successful career owning her own public relations firm where she sometimes gets to represent celebrities like Lucy Liu (although that didn't last long). After being harassed by her older and somewhat prude neighbours for enjoying a flamboyant sex life, Samantha feels as though she needs to move to a more open and free-spirited district. In the season 3 episode "Are We Sluts?", Samantha buys her own place in the trendy Meat Packing District of New York City.
Samantha without a doubt has one main passion: sex. She is a very open minded woman when it comes to sexual experiences and has even once called herself a "try-sexual"; she'll try anything once. She is open to the idea of sex with younger men, sex with older men, threesomes, sex in public places, one-night-stands, sex with complete strangers, sex with married men, sex with herself, relationships with women, and so on. In fact, in season 4, she engages in a brief lesbian relationship. The only reason it doesn't last is because it involved too many emotional talks and not enough sex. She doesn't care about what others may think of her; she's her own person and lives her life for the benefit of herself.
Her style very much expresses her personality. She often wears very bright and vibrant colors, big and loud jewelry and accessories, and fashionable shoes and purses. She is a busy, well-kept woman who always has time for her three best friends. She treasures her friendships and loves going out with the girls. She always knows the perfect place to go whether it be a new club opening like BED or a new restaurant opening like SushiSamba, Samantha is your ticket in.
Samantha has two main relationships throughout the series. Her first one is with multi hotel owner Richard Wright who she meets in the season 4 episode "Belles of the Balls". He is a strong successful man who first becomes Samantha's boss and then her boyfriend. He loves spoiling her with materialistic objects like jewelry and wallets but lacks spoiling her in the emotional category. Feeling insecure as Samantha is not used to being in love, she follows Richard on his lunch break to find him cheating on her. Devastated, she decides to give him a second chance in season 5 but realizes she can't live her life worrying about when he will cheat on her next. This time, they break up for good. Her second serious relationship is with Smith Jerrod who is a waiter at the restaurant Raw. Samantha and him meet in the season 6 episode "Great Sexpectations". At first, they are together purely for sex as Smith is quite a bit younger than Samantha. She helps him become a star by using her witty PR tools and they slowly become a real item. They continue on in a relationship until the end of the first movie when Samantha realizes she doesn't want her career to be about managing her boyfriend.
As strong as she is, Samantha faces her own struggles beginning in the season 6 episode "The Ick Factor". After deciding she wants to get breast implants, her visit at the doctor's reveals that she has a cancerous lump in her breast. This brings out a sad and more gentle side of Samantha that was not always seen in the earlier episode.
